Glaucoma is a serious eye condition that damages the optic nerve, which is crucial for vision. The damage is often due to abnormally increased pressure in the eye, known as intraocular pressure. If not treated promptly, glaucoma can lead to blindness.
Symptoms of Glaucoma
Ocular Hypertension refers to higher than normal pressure inside the eye without any damage to the optic nerve or loss of vision. This condition arises due to the poor drainage of aqueous humor (the fluid that maintains normal pressure in the eye through continuous flow). The excess fluid build-up results in increased pressure inside the eye.
Risks of Untreated Ocular Hypertension
Both ocular hypertension and glaucoma require timely intervention to prevent serious vision impairment or blindness. Regular eye check-ups and prompt treatment are crucial in managing these conditions effectively.

Glaucoma, Ocular hypertension (high fluid pressure of eyes)
It inhibits the binding of certain receptors (beta receptors) on the tissues lining the inner wall of the eyeball. These tissues increase the production of aqueous humor (fluid of the eye). So, by inhibiting beta receptors, there is a reduction in aqueous humor production, and therefore, pressure in the eyes is reduced. The exact mechanism of action is not established.
Ocupres 0.5% Eye Drops is used to treat elevated intraocular pressure in patients with ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.
Timolol, the active ingredient, is a non-selective β-adrenergic receptor blocker. It reduces intraocular pressure by decreasing the formation of aqueous humor in the eye.
